What do Kid Rock’s fleet of vehicles and the Batmobile have in common? Both will be on display at Detroit’s 61st Annual Autorama this weekend, March 8 through March 10. The custom car show, held at the Cobo Center, will feature hot rods, celebrity guest appearances and more.
I think it’s safe to say that whether you’re a first-time Autorama attendee or a veteran, you’ll be instantaneously drawn to the shiny cars like a moth to a flame. While the cars are the obvious main attraction, there are also several special events this year.
The 50th Anniversary Ridler’s Ball will be held on Friday, March 8 at 6 p.m., where the “Great 8” Ridler Award finalists will be announced, as well as this year’s Circle of Champions honorees. Keep in mind you’ll need a separate ticket for this event, but for $40 you’ll get food and soft drinks, and there’s a cash bar available.
Not surprisingly, the exhibit that sounds most appealing to me is called “A Tribute to the Batmobile,” where three generations of the iconic movie car will be on display. Sadly, Christian Bale is not amongst the celebrity guests. However, Tim Guraedy of A&E’s “Duck Dynasty,” WWE Superstar Sheamus and Spongebob Squarepants are a few celebrities you can expect to see throughout the weekend.

If you’re looking to make a buck, you can sell your car-related collectibles at the 19th Annual Toy-A-Rama, which will be held all weekend. Even if you’re not a huge car buff, there will likely be an event that catches your attention at Autorama. Several rockabilly bands will be performing live all weekend, as well as a DJ, so if nothing else, start a dance party.
General admission to Autorama costs $18 for adults, $5 for children aged six to 12, and is free for children five and under. If you’re on a budget, head to O’Reilly Auto Parts, where you can purchase a ticket at a discounted rate of $16 for adults and $4 for children.
